ADOPTING FROM
HUSKY HAVEN OF FLORIDA

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Husky Haven of Florida!  We are excited that you want to add one of our beloved dogs into your family, and we are equally as excited to place one of our dogs in your loving household.  Please understand we are 100% volunteer based.

Our volunteers do this as their passion for the breed, but all of us have full time jobs and families too!  We do our very best to provide the best service possible, so please be patient with us as we diligently work to find your new best friend.

To ensure a match made in heaven, there are a few steps that must be done and requirements to be met. Please read ALL of the following information below:

ADOPTION FEEs

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and have been heartworm tested and fecal tested. Many of our Huskies arrive needing extra care, including multiple vet visits to help them become healthy and adoptable.

The adoption fee helps cover these veterinary expenses, and we rely on donations to continue providing the care our dogs need.

Every dog also comes with a martingale collar, leash and a Husky Haven of Florida ID tag.

$500 – Purebred or artic mixed breed puppies up to 6 months plus $25 application fee ONLY for puppies.

$400 – All puppies 6 months to 1 year

$325 – All dogs 1 to 8 years

$275 – All dogs 8 to 10 years
$200 – All dogs over 11 years

Step #1: Research the Breed, and Our Available Dogs

Huskies have notoriously interesting personalities and are not a breed of dog to be taken in unprepared. Please do ample research and consider fostering before diving in to the magical world of huskies! Find some information here:

Our available Huskies are listed on our website. You may also find our adoptable dogs on PetFinder, Adopt a Pet, and RescueMe. We update our listings as soon as possible to keep the most current availability listed. However, due to timing and volunteer availability, updates may not happen immediately, so please allow at least 24 hours for the update to reflect on our website.

We do our best to provide honest and detailed information about our dogs in their bios on this page.  We try to be as thorough as possible based on what we know.

  • The pictures you see are the only pictures we have, so please do not ask for other pictures!

  • Please read each bio carefully.  If it's not listed in their bio, then unfortunately we do not know.

  • Many times, you may apply for one dog, but after our review, we determine that dog may not be a good fit for your family and lifestyle.  We’ll do our best to match you with a dog that we think would be better suited.

  • We receive multiple applications for the same dog and our first priority is placing the dog into the home that is best suited to his/her needs.

  • Please note that we DO NOT HOLD DOGS. Also, we could have another applicant interested in the same dog you apply for. We do our best to find the best match for our dogs, and if the one you apply for is no longer available once you’re approved, then we will match you with one that we think would fit your family and lifestyle.

Step #2: Complete an Adoption Application

The adoption application is the best way to tell us about yourself and why you believe a Husky would be a great fit for your family. We ask that you complete the application in full, as this helps us get to know you better and determine which Husky might be the right match. If the Husky you requested is already pending or isn’t the best fit, your application also gives us the chance to suggest another one who may be perfect for you.

Please allow 1–2 weeks for us to process your application. The timeline depends on the number of applications we receive. Every application goes through a thorough review, which includes a vet check, employment verification, and a mandatory home visit (all family members must be present).

Any missing or incomplete information will delay the process and may result in denial, so please be sure to fill everything out carefully.

Requirements for adoption:

  • Current pets: Any existing dog(s) must be spayed or neutered and up to date on all necessary vaccines, including Rabies, DH2PP, and Bordetella. Dogs must also be current on flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.

  • Renters: If you rent, please verify with your landlord that Huskies and/or Malamutes are allowed. We will confirm this during the adoption process.

  • Fenced yard: While a fenced yard is not required for adult dogs, it is highly recommended. For puppies under 1 year old, a fenced backyard is required.

  • Age and experience: Applicants must be 21 or older. We do not adopt to students, as busy schedules can make it difficult to meet the needs of a Husky. Puppies under 1 year of age must go to a home with another dog that matches a Husky’s energy level. We do not place puppies or purebred Huskies in homes without proven Husky experience or prior dog ownership experience.

  • Prey drive: Huskies have a strong prey drive. This is always considered when placing a dog in a new home.

  • Puppy care requirements: For any adopted puppies, you must adhere to our recommended schedule for vaccinations, boosters, and spay/neuter procedures (if not already completed).

Step #3: Home Check

If your application is a good match for a particular Husky, it will be followed by a home check conducted by a Husky Haven of Florida volunteer. Adopting a Husky is a serious commitment, and the home check helps ensure that the dog you adopt will thrive in your environment.

During the visit, we’ll look at things like:

  • How the Husky may interact with your family members and other pets.

  • Where the dog will stay when you’re not at home.

  • Whether your home and yard are free from potential hazards.

  • How and how often your Husky will get exercise.

Our goal is to make sure both you and your new Husky are set up for a happy, successful life together.

Step 4: Meet and Greet / Adoption

Please note: We do not have a physical shelter or central location for our dogs. Our rescue covers the entire state of Florida, and all of our Huskies live in private foster homes with families who generously volunteer their time. Because of this, an approved application is required before scheduling a meet and greet with any of our dogs.

Once your home check is complete and your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet with the foster family of the Husky you’re interested in. To make sure the match is the right one, it’s important that all household members—including other dogs—attend and interact with the potential new family member.

Please note that adopters, family members, and other dog(s) will need to travel to the foster home for the meeting. If everything goes well, you’ll be able to adopt your new Husky that very day—so don’t forget to bring a leash!

-FYI-

Please note: Submitting an application does not guarantee approval for the dog you apply for. We reserve the right to decline an applicant if, in our opinion, the home situation is not compatible with the needs of a Husky.

We are a 100% volunteer-based organization, and while we work hard to process applications as quickly as possible, it may take 7–10 days to receive an initial response. The full application process typically takes 2–3 weeks. To help us review your application efficiently, please fill it out completely. Incomplete applications may cause delays or may not be reviewed at all.

Do we adopt outside of Florida? Usually, no. The logistics of out-of-state adoptions can be complicated. However, if an application is truly a perfect match for a dog, we may consider it. If you’re outside Florida, we encourage you to connect with local shelters and rescues to help save a life in your area.
